No love for Bill Hall?

Postby The Cow » Fri Mar 09, 2007 1:26 am

I think he is one of the most interesting picks in this years draft. Many think him to be a bust type player coming off a "career" year, others see him as a young and improving player. He will be eligible at 3B/SS/OF in Yahoo that kind of flexibility is always nice. Hall is 27 years old, IMO his 26 year old breakout could be for real. However he did strikeout an alarming 162 times. He is slated to bat cleanup.
His stats from last year:
.270 101 35 85 9

My projection for this year:
.275 105 30 105 15

Thats a pretty sweet line for a SS/3B/OF. Hall is working on his base stealing skills this year to improve his jump to try and steal 20 bags.

i know many want to look at his power surge and dismiss it as a career year, but he is only 27 he should put up similar numbers, IMO.

What do you guys think????

I think last years stats are a pretty good projection for this year for him. While I dont' think he fully repeats last years power he won't play part time the first month and a half either so his AB's should shoot up a bit to offset any regression. He also was a below average hitter in RBI situations last year and to me thats just a sample size fluke and will be offset this year.

I think it's very reasonable to expect a similar 06 season although I think his AVG will come down.

I worry that the defensive shuffling may impact his hitting, but if he drops off, it won't be by much. He's no Gary Matthews, Jr.

Lol, ok poor example. First guy I could think of that inexplicably had one good year. Hall was great as a platoon player in '05, and showed continued improvement last year. I don't see fluke.

Well he is a career .267 hitter. He hit .270 last year and .292 in 2005. 2004 he hit .238, but he was 24 years old and seems to have improved as a hitter. I am just saying that .270 is very reasonable if not higher, though he could bat say .260. As for the 162 strikeouts, Soriano struck out 160 times last year. Just saying that hackers can produce and not just phlegm.

P.S. Yoda I don't necessarilly disagree with you.

P.S.S. I have seen Hall drop to about pick 80 in quite a few drafts, not a bad value at that point.

That looks good to me except the SB. He got caught 9 out of 17 times last year. Plus he only stole 3 bases in the 2nd half in 10 attempts.
