Just pointing out that steals and OBP are not mutually exclusive.

Not mutually exclusive, but closely tied together. Only person I can think of in the 15-20 year that had a .320 or lower OBP and made 50 steals was Vince Coleman when he was with the Royals. I'm sure there have been some others but it is pretty rare in higher run scoring environments.

Did some quick research so it still might not be an all-inclusive list, but Pods, Womack and Crawford accomplished it once each. That's it in the last 15 years. Pretty rare feat.

Sorry but these days nobody has the raw speed to steal 50 bags besides Reyes/Pierre/Hanley/Crawford/Gathright/Freel/Pods/Sori/Chone/Taveras and maybe just a couple others.

If I'm not mistaken Barfield will have to lead off, hit .325 and become slightly faster in order to steal 50. 25 seems much much more likely.

Well the Indians as a team had 78 stolen base attempts last year. Of course some of that has to do with a lack of team speed, but some of it is due to Wedge. I just don't see Barfield stealing 50, to steal 50 bags at an 80% clip the Barfield would have to add 63 stolen base attempts to the ledger. I just don't see it happening. 25 SBs is a more realistic expectation for Barfield.

Yeah he did, unlike SB's power comes later though so harder to judge that one just yet (my money is on 30 HR's tops though).

That didn't stop lou brock.

True, but Barfield's no Lou Brock, and this isn't the 1960's. Barfield's a first-pitch swinger and should hit 9th this season; no way he gets 50.
