Narron--pretty good coach and raised just a few miles from Raleigh so he got to see Hamilton quite a bit in school.

Looks like a perfect fit to me to be Griffey and Freel's backup.

If they were smart they would put freel somewhere else and play Josh

It's very possible. The Reds have shown that they don't believe Freel is an every day OF, so if Josh can step up he could win a job in RF. There is also the chance that "Mr. Glass" plays with his kids at some time during the season so that could also open up a spot.

I know everyone is very hopeful but this is the same guy who lost 4 years of his development due to drug abuse and other off field incidents.

This is only Spring Training. Let's not go overboard with what he is capable of until we see him in real action and most importantly, stays out of trouble off the field.

noooooooo.
i think we should go overboard.
he's not andrew mccutchen or felix pie,
we're not hoping he makes the team so he can be overmatched.

he's 25 and hasn't played a game in triple A.
he's showing he can still play baseball after everything.

i think the more support he has
(whether he knows it or not)
the better his chances are to succeed.

i predict 30-30.

Keep in mind that he's a Rule 5 pickup too. That means that the team HAS to keep him on the major league roster if they want to keep him.

If Denorfia has options remaining I could see him being sent to the minors just for space concerns. Conine's perfectly fine as a bench guy. Crosby's no great shakes either so Hamilton does have a shot.

Griffey's been complaining about still having pain in his hand. This is certainly something I'll be watching with interest this spring.

Hamilton's emergence has probably ensured Crosby's release. That was a dumb signing, a minor league contract would have sufficed. Conine's on the team to be the 5th outfielder and platoon a bit at first base, so he's on. I'm thinking Deno, Dunn, or Freel get dealt early, maybe before opening day.

My vote goes to trading all three, leaving us Griffey, Hamilton, Hopper, with Jay Bruce coming up in '08.

Conine isn't 100% healthy either!
I'm not just jumping out there and saying Josh deserves a spot, but if he plays well during st, we know he has the talent to be a MLB player, and he could deserve a role on the team. He is still young and I would love to have a "Clean" Josh w/a Jay Bruce out there for the next 5 years to come. I wish him the best and hope he makes the team. In no way should anything be given to him, but I do believe he has the drive to prove he deserves a spot.

He's already the best OF on the team. I think that says stone lock iin my mind to at least make the team.

Agreed. And Narron knows it. Johnny Narron, Jerry's brother, was an all star coach of Hamilton's back in the day in NC. Johnny's around now too for a support mechanism and as someone who has insight into Hamilton's psyche....like an old safety blanket.

As much as the fantasy world would like Freel to be an everyday player, the fact is, he plays too hard to be counted on everyday. It's much better to have him as uber utility base stealer/sparkplug guy.

You're outfield in GAB, sooner rather than later will be Dunn in left, Jr in right and hamilton in center.

He has the talent to take the risk for. Should his off the field troubles be actually cleared up, he could be the biggest Rule 5 bargain since Johan.
