I know most of you are not in H2H leagues that have playoffs and distribute prize money, but I was just wondering if anyone had some input on some distribution styles my league plans to debate this afternoon.
Last season I tested giving out a small percentage of the jack pot to each weekly top point scorer, the team with the most points over the entire season and the team with the best record. Then, the rest of the money went toward the top three playoff teams.
The only major flaw I saw, with our system last season, was that the team with the best record also got the most points. So, this season we are thinking of not giving money to the team with the best record.
Do you think giving money out during the regular season is a good idea?
If so, what percent should be given out in the regular season and what percent in the "post season"?
The question above is the one that I really want input for
In my 10 team H2H league last season we had an entrance fee of $50 (10x50=$500).
What we did then was break down the season into Periods. Each period would last about 4 weeks so we had about 6 periods during the year.
The team with the best record for the current Period would get $20, 2nd place $15 and 3rd place $10.
At the end of the season, the team in first got $100, 2nd place got $60, 3rd place got $40 and 4th place got $30.
It worked out pretty well. I won a few periods and managed to stay competitive in the ones I didn't win, plus I won the league so I think I ended up winning somewhere around $175. Not a huge amount but nice nonetheless. Bragging rights are priceless though
The breakdown then looked something like this:
Period Winners: $20 for 1st X 6 = $120
$15 for 2nd X 6 = $90
$10 for 3rd X 6 = $60
-------
$270
Final Winners: 1st Place = $100
2nd Place = $60
3rd Place = $40
4th place = $30
-------
$230
So the 270 plus 230 = 500. We decided to distribute the pot throughout the season in hopes that it would keep the majority of the owners interested throughout.
I agree . Interesting idea about breaking the season up into segments.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
I play is a 10-team H2H Yahoo! league. There is a $100 enterance fee. The top six make the playoffs. The top two teams have a first round bye. Every pick/drop is $.50 and every trade is $1.00.
Here is the breakdown:
1st Place- $600
2nd Place- $300
3rd Place- $100
Also, the winner gets ALL the pick/drop and trade money! This can add up really quick. Our league is quite competitive. I've played this league for two years now. In the first year we had unlimited picks/drops. But we didn't like that because guys would pick up an entire new pitching staff toward to the end of each week. So, this past season we hade a 40 pick/drop limit and a 10 trade limit. It worked well for us.
The bragging rights are the most important, though. Trashing your fellow owners is most fun of all!
I'm not sure how (or if) this would work out, but I had the idea that each person gives a set amount ($10, $25, what ever) to every player above ihm. I thought that this could be successful because because more $$ is parted with for each spot up in the standings, so ppl would try to remain competitive, even if they were towards the bottom.

Interesting idea. I think that would be great for a semi-casual roto league.
