Can someone logically explain to me how Derek Jeter won the AL Hank Aaron award, but got snuffed of the MVP award... winning the Hank Aaron award establishes that Jeter was a better hitter than Morneau in 06, and his fielding performance FAR surpassed the 1B... Jeter kept his team in playoff contention all year while injuries plagued the Yankees line-up, while Morneau had Mauer in front of him, as well as Cuddyer and Hunter... isnt it clear that Jeter was more valuable all around, especially to his team... I just don't get it...

Well this thread is only about four months late.
MattyIce, if you check the MVP discussions from last year, it'll become clear that you're pretty much preaching to the choir on this forum. I think the majority of people here disagreed with Morneau winning on the grounds that either Jeter meant more to an injury depleted Yankee team or Mauer and Santana were more valuable than Morneau to begin with... etc, etc.

And just like last year, an "injury-depleted" Yankee team is still better than just about any lineup in baseball. You see, most teams have to get by with a couple superstars, some pretty good players, and some role players. Who in their right mind will feel sorry for the Yankees being forced to field a nomal lineup instead of a $200 million all-star team?
