What are the chances ARod gains SS eligibility this year in a league where you only need 2 starts at a position for eligibility?
I know Cairo is the all-round util guy, but will Torre work A-Rod in there a few games to give Jeter a break?
I am dead at SS right now, and am working on a couple potential deals that will cost me some quality players, and I'd rather not have to pull the trigger. However, if I don't do it, I'm going to end up with a mediocre to awful starting SS.
Well he did make a couple of appearances in 04 and 05 so I guess it's possible. Although I tend to think that will all the drama in the Bronx they won't even open that can of worms unless there is a serious injury to Jeter.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Well, the good news is as a Red Sox fan I have no real problem rooting for a Jeter injury. Unfortunately, I'll have to move forward with a trade to fill my void at SS. Thanks for the help.
I remember this question coming up a lot the last few years.
The only hope you have is a MULTI-SEASON or CAREER ending injury to Derek Jeter. A sore shoulder or somesuch will be filled by Cairo or the like.
If Jeter died in a car wreck, then yeah, they'd probably move ARod back to SS.
BUT, with 2 starts it IS more likely to happen than in most leagues. i could see Arod playing short once or twice this year if a late inning scenario played well that way in Torre's favor, but I don't see 2 starts at short.
I really doubt A-rod gets two starts at SS. Torre has never started him there, even when Jeter injured. Doesn't want to open up the NY crazy media can of worms.
The only times I remember A-rod playing short as a yankee was late in the game or in extra innings, if Jeter was out for injury and he had to pinch hit for whoever was starting at short. Can't remember him ever starting.

It won't happen. There would be too much hoopla if Arod plays short.Besides who would play 3rd if Arod plays short. This topic came up when the Yanks first got Arod & Torre said it would never happen.
