I Feel bad for Lidle's family and all, but this guy should not have to pay for damages that were not covered by his insurance. That's like you sitting at a stop sign minding your own business and someone rear ends your car. Even if the driver dies, why should you have to eat any "out of pocket expenses"? I'm just curious how much of a claim( if any) did this dentis receive from his Insurance company. 7 Million seems like an exessive amount to be uncovered.
I see both sides. Sure, it doesn't look good to sue someone who passed away, but at the same time, that guy's actions shouldn't cost anyone a ton of money, so I don't blame the dentist for not wanting to lose $7 million due to Lidle.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
Even if the dentist 'just' pursued his claim through his insurance company, the insurance company would very likely turn around and pursue Lidle's estate for what they paid for too.
It is analogous to if a driver drives their car into your house. They owe you for the damage. It is certainly unfortunate that Lidle died but that does not relieve him of responsibility for the damage. Unless they can find something wrong w/ the plane or some error on the part of air traffic control people (neither of which have appeared in the press that I've heard about...) he would be on the hook for it.
Is it really a 7 million dollar home?? He must own the entire apartment building or something.
It's a tragedy, but from what I remember, Lidle wasn't supposed to be flying there anyway. Personally, I would approach the family with a request to reimburse for the damages. I would also let it be known that I would not hesitate to sue if they did not willingly pay for said damages. I would not try to turn any sort of a profit from it though, just reimbursement.
And honestly, Lidle seemed like a nice guy. I'm sure he would want to pay for damages he caused with his accident, if he could.
I don't care who it was, if they crashed their plane into my home, they're going to pay for all damages/losses. If you're not willing to take that risk, don't fly a plane.

Yes it was a luxury apartment building in NYC... so $7 million is not that crazy. Still it would seem to be partially covered and this guy sounds wealthy. But he lost his home.
I had flooding in my house, filed a claim and then the next year the insurance co. dropped us. Insurance companies will try to screw you every time, it's their job to protect their payouts.
