TB vs. XBH

This might be a stupid question but I'm tired so please help me out here. Between Total Bases and Extra Base Hits which one makes doubles and triples hitters more valuable than home run hitters?

Upon further thought, it'd be XBH, eh? Cuz with XBH doubles, triples, and home runs are worth the same but with TB home runs are worth more, right?

OK, cool, then what do y'all think about XBH as a 7th category (along with R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP)? I haven't really seen it mentioned here but I kinda like it in theory. I don't like OPS because it's way too much overlap if HR and OBP are already cats and it seems like TB's would be heavily influenced by home runs as well, just adding more value to power hitters. I guess my objective is to give a little value boost to high-contact guys who don't hit out of the park much and guys with good speed who don't steal much (Freddy Sanchez comes to mind as an XBH player). What do you think?

Are there enough doubles and triples in a week to merit having XBH as a cat along with HR in a H2H league?

TB does favor home run guys but some top of the lineup guys who get lot of hits put up respectable numbers since they get so many more ABs.

I too have been looking for a way to reward a player that meets the criteria you speak of. XBH is an interesting idea but if HRs is a category it might be fairly redundant especially in a H2H week.

I looked at some numbers but it appears the HRs influence XBH quite a lot. Power guys still dominate the list with a few others. This is mostly because there is a larger difference in the HR cat to a player like sanchez than the advantage gained in other types of XBHs. For what it is worth Sanchez led the majors in doubles and that list is full of guys meeting your criteria. It is an unorthodox stat but might make things interesting.

Thanks for the input! Out of curiosity, what program or whatever did you use to sort players by XBH?

I think I was looking at espn stats. There should be a few places you can do it.
