Cole Hamels #2? (Greg Miller)

Postby nathan050904 » Thu Mar 01, 2007 4:59 pm

Anyone who's been following the minors for the last couple years will recognize the name Greg Miller. He's had surgery to repair his shoulder but, supposidly he is back and feeling 100%. Infact heres a piece from the LA Times. Does this guy have the potential to once again become what he was once destined to be?

....For the first time, Little included left- hander Greg Miller in the list of candidates for the fifth spot in the Dodgers' starting rotation.

While Miller is the longest of long shots, the significance of Little's statement is that Miller, the organization's top lefty prospect before 2004 shoulder surgery derailed his career, is going back to starting.

"If he continues through spring training the way he came in here, I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case," Little said. "This guy hasn't been healthy for a couple of years, but he is healthy now. We will do the best we can to continue his progress."

Little said Miller will enter Grapefruit League play on a starter's program, meaning he gradually will be stretched out to several innings at a time.

People say injuries however, if I am correct on this theres only been one injury but, it's been mis-diagnosed. Now he came back last year and didn't have any injury problems...

From Deric McKamey- Baseball HQ

"I have real reservations about Miller returning to the starting rotation. His mechanics have been tweaked since the surgery, which has kept him relatively healthy since, but we have no idea how his stamina and ability to hold his velocity will fare. He has never shown much ability to past five innings in the past and I just worry that his arm can't take it.

You do make an excellent comp, comparing him to Hamels. He was every bit of that before his injuries."

i thought he was the real deal years ago... best lefty to come around in some time had excellent control and perfect command. then the injury hit the year after and it all went south quick. hes got the potential no doubt but i wasted enough time on that guy waiting to see if he comes around (had him for 4 years in a dynasty league) i'll let someone else take a chance on him and i'll take the next up and comer(kershaw)

Yea, I have Kershaw amoungst other young arms but, I felt like gambling on Miller if he doesn't work out so be it.
