Call me crazy, but I have a very good feeling he will the one of the top fantasy catchers this year. I am really surprised when I see some sights and publications that have had some very low projections for him, considering prob all he will do this year is DH. To me, thats all the guy needs to revive his career. Yes, I realize he is as old as dirt, and he is past his prime, but everyone said the same thing about Frank Thomas last year, when he signed w/ Oakland, and what did he do??? Here are a couple of predictions I will make right now about Piazza, and you tell me if I need to lay off the liquor!!!

He will get 500 ab's this year... (hasn't done so since 2001)

He will hit about 25-30 hr's this year (hit 22 in 399 ab's in San Diego last year)

He will have 80-95 rbi's this year (not since 02' season)

He will have at least a batting avg higher than .285 (not since 03')

Maybe I am oversighting the fact that he will only be DH'ing this year, but I really don't think I am. I feel his enough gas in his tank to have a really productive year at the plate. What do you guys think??

Final projection:
285- 27hr's- 90 rbi's- 75runs- 25sb's (just kidding)

I really like Piazza this year as well. I'm not sure hes going to have that high of a BA but i like your other numbers. I've been taking him fairly early in my two drafts this year but i think he has a very good chance of being a top 5 catcher this year.

Yeah, maybe the avg is a bit high, but I still think he is def' good for batting over 275.

I agree with your rationale. I think he will definately produce being a full-time DH. He's one of the catchers I'm targeting late in most drafts.

I think he is gonna be good but it is starting to look like he may not be much of a secret come draft time. He is slowly moving up the draft board and would you be willing to take the chance on him in say round 11 or 12 for a question mark?

At this point it's widely known Piazza is probably the best alternative after the top 3 catchers. I'm hoping I could snag piazza by the 14th round.

piazza still has some fire in him he wil be a homerun/deep threat as well as providing very good batting average... he is a late round steal in the draft
