I'm from Virginia but not Richmond.

My GF says Richmond has some very very nice neighborhoods but I haven't seen them.

Good news is she is only 2 hours from D.C. and 4-6 from the Carolina beaches which are nice.

She'll be fine. Just stay out of bad neighborhoods
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

The family is quite nervous for her. Any words of advice for her? Practical stuff. How does she keep her kids off crack? How do you protect yourself from car-jackers? What do you do if somebody pulls a gun on you? etc.

Keep kids off crack? Don't have any. If she already does, leave them in Canada.

Protect yourself from car-jackers? She should inform the car-jacker that he/she will now have to pay the car tax.

If someone pulls a gun on her? Tell her to roll on the ground and play dead.

Also, tell her to start following NASCAR and watch My Name is Earl.

Mad you can't count your ex-wife. :-D

Nah, my ex-wife wanted me to live. Who else was going to pay the bills? :*)

I live in Va., about 60 miles from Richmond. I just bought a house and five acres of land for $150,000. If you have the green to drop on a five bedroom, do it outside of town and commute. You'll get a great deal because of the crappy housing market. The money you invest will certainly go up as people try to escape the urban sprawl. There's little to no crime out in the country. The commute will be the only headache. Enjoy the beauty of Virginia without the headache of the city. Welcome to America, and the great state of Virginia. Oh yeah...buy the property on the east or north side of the city. The value of your property will skyrocket, as you will be located b/t either D.C. or Hampton Roads (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, etc.), both of which are growing substantially.
