Has anyone else noticed the Team Message Boards on this site??? After you click "forums," they are at the bottom of this. Anyway, I'd like to start up a little more dialouge down there on the White Sox board. Thanks!
Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.

apparently this got moved down to the much-ignored CWS cafe board?
i'll tell you what i'm worried about this year...
starting pitching:
Buehrle: i'm worried that last year wasn't a fluke, that he's gonna get blasted the same way this year, and basically, that he just won't have it...
5th Starter: Don't know who it is, but whoever it is, i'm worried about inexperience, obviously...i don't mind getting rid of either Garcia or McCarthy, and i like what we got in return....just not sure i like it for this year....
Vazquez: I'm worried that he's going to implode on the 3rd time through each lineup he faces, just like he did last year. He had some really exasperating outings...i hope our bullpen is well-stocked and ready for the inevitable 5th inning implosion...
Contreras: I'm worried that he's actually 50, and that he'll fall apart and we'll see more of last year's 2nd half than last year's 1st half from him...
Garland: The only one i'm not really worried about, although there are always those little nagging worries from the pre-2005 Garland...

Yes, It was originally posted in "Baseball Leftovers."

However, I have no worries that Buehrle will return to form. Don't forget, he was an All Star last year, just had a bad second half. And COntreras had like 15 straight Wins at some point last year, the pitching just fell apart at the same time.

i wouldn't be shocked to see buehrle return to effective form, but if you put a gun to my head, i'd guess that he'll probably struggle again this year...we'll see.
despite age issues, i'm not as worried about Contreras...i do have a bit of confidence that he will turn it around from his bad 2nd half...it did seem like just about all the pitching failed at the same time last year...some bad luck/effects of long postseason/baseball classic at work there, i guess.

But Buehrle, pre-2006, was one of the more consistent left-handed, or any pitchers for that matter, pitchers in the game. Even up until the All Star break last year. (again, he WAS an all star in '06) I don't understand why because of ONE bad half of a year you can say he will just continue to struggle. Also, he is in his contract year, and we all(in this case, me and you, shasty) know what that means$$$

Buehrle in 2007: 17-8, 3.76 ERA

yeah, that contract year does give me hope, and obviously, the greatest reason for hope is that he was exactly that consistent pitcher before last year...like i said, i wouldn't be surprised if he returns to that form...i think there's definitely a solid chance that he will...it's just if you made me put money on it, i'd got the other way. i mean, what was the reason that he struggled last year? he lost a mile or two on his fastball, right? And with that loss of velocity, the diff. between his changeup and fastball wasn't as much as it was previously. Now, if that loss of velocity was due simply to a tired arm (even though before last year, he was always described as having a "rubber arm"), and he can recover that velocity, he'll probably be allright. But along with that loss of velocity, and perhaps because of it, it seemed that hitters were just on him last year...that they figured out that he was throwing that 1st pitch strike, and perhaps b/c of the lack of velocity, they could catch up with it easily, and they were just all over him. I guess i feel like the whole key to his success is getting ahead in the count. It seems like he needs everything he can get on that 1st pitch fastball in order to get it by guys, and in the zone. And if he still doesn't have that mile or two or three, i'm afraid we might see more of the same. But i sure hope not. :-o
