Pitching categories

Postby Trojan Pony » Tue Feb 27, 2007 4:33 am

I moved my league from Yahoo to ESPN because ESPN lets me set all of my league's crazy custom settings totally for free. The biggest downside is that they do not have the K/BB ratio cat as an option which I had finally settled on in Yahoo. So I need help deciding what would be the best sixth category for a H2H league...

On-base percentage against (OBA)? Isn't that pretty similar to WHIP?

Holds? I would like to get MR's more involved (another reason I liked K/BB) but I think giving them a whole category is a little much...

Batting average against (BAA)? Isn't this sort of already covered by ERA and/or WHIP?

Hits Allowed + Walks Issued? Scrap WHIP and break it down into 2 categories?

Strikeout per 9 ratio (K/9)? This is what I'm leaning towards right now but does it overlap with K's too much?

Innings pitched (IP)? Or what about for an entirely different approach, use IP as a category to encourage guys to start their pitchers. In fact, the other downside of ESPN is they don't have a minimum innings limit, so this might not be such a bad idea...kill two birds with one stone... There's a 40-move limit in the league so guys would not be churning starters to run up their IP's.

Thoughts please? Thanks a lot.

Please? Anyone?

P.S. Why is this section so dead? I think now it would be at its busiest with everyone setting up their leagues and all...

I use Total Bases Allowed in our 6x6 - as you said, WHIP already covers any hit or walk categories.

I like this category in my league since it dings those gopher ball pitchers. I use CBS and would probably switch to SLGA if it was available...
