Whats the deal with Gomes this year. Could this be a breakout year for him?
Devil Rays OF/DH Jonny Gomes appears to have recovered well from last year's surgery on his right shoulder -- he's swinging freely in training camp and hitting the ball far in batting practice. "It feels real loose," he said. "Toward the end of last season, when I had a hard swing there was a weird pain. At any point it felt like it could blow out." (Updated 02/25/2007).

Whatever the case may be, one thing's certain: he can be had super cheaply, and is probably well worth the gamble later in the drafts.
In my mind, the dream scenario would be to pick him up late, have him start this year like he did last year, then sell him high to some poor chap for Thome or something of the sort.

He's probably one of the cheapest 30/100 threats out there. I'm curious to see where Tampa wants to hit him before I stand by the 100 RBI prediction, but I think when healthy he's very capable of putting up numbers that will exceed his draft position.

Two things:
1. I'm quietly picking him up in every league I can. He's a manager's favorite and is pretty much guaranteed a spot if healthy - and he's clearly got the potential
2. I originally thought this thread was going to be about how he is a swinger, which I would've found creepy.
AHhh... Johnny Gomes... I remember scoring him in every draft last year and laughing all the way to the bank for about a month. He seems to be a good bargain, It appears hes healthy too
