Abreu suffers strained oblique

Postby Another Blown Save » Mon Feb 26, 2007 3:21 pm

Bobby Abreu strained an oblique muscle in batting practice today and is expected to be shut down from all baseball related activities for a few weeks. If you ask me, Opening Day is in question. The Yankees sent him for more tests. Asked if this opens a door for Bernie Williams' triumphant return, Joe Torre basically politely said, 'No.'

This is a tough one for Abreu owners. Injuries like this will likely not keep a player out for an extended period but usually don't go away quickly either, and sap performance for a while.

Definately knock Abreu down a round or two (or more) on account of this injury.

For those of us still awaiting upcoming major drafts, I'm wondering if this is a nice spot for a steal... with benefits to be reaped a couple months in... I do wonder how much this will hurt his ADP overall.

From Rotoworld:
General manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that he's not sure if Bobby Abreu (oblique) will be ready for Opening Day.

"These things are very tricky," Cashman said. "With one swing, you could go back to square one. That's the danger of it."

Funny, a day before Cashman's statement, the player said he was fine. This is from Rotoworld too:

Bobby Abreu (oblique) is expected to start taking swings over the weekend.
Abreu said Wednesday that he expects to be ready for Opening Day. "I don’t feel any pain right now," Abreu said.
