Just Drafted Pt. II...WHIR

Postby mpatt34 » Sun Feb 25, 2007 5:41 pm

Just completed my second draft. I probably should have waited until today and just posted both teams, but oh well. It's a Yahoo! 12 team, non-keeper, H2H 5x5 league. Next to the players are (Round)/(Pick overall).

C Michael Barrett (ChC - C) 15/173
1B Ryan Howard (Phi - 1B) 1/5
2B Howie Kendrick (LAA - 1B, 2B) 12/140
3B Ryan Zimmerman (Was - 3B) 5/53
SS Carlos Guillen (Det - SS) 6/68
OF Matt Holliday (Col - OF) 3/29
OF Alex Rios (Tor - OF) 10/116
OF Pat Burrell (Phi - OF) 13/149
Util Travis Hafner (Cle - DH) 2/20
BN Edwin Encarnacion (Cin - 3B) 20/236
BN Frank Thomas (Tor - DH) 21/245
BN Carlos Quentin (Ari - OF) 16/188

SP Scott Kazmir (TB - SP) 8/92
SP Carlos Zambrano (ChC - SP) 4/44
RP Brad Lidge (Hou - RP) 11/125
RP Takashi Saito (LAD - RP) 14/164
P A.J. Burnett (Tor - SP) 18/212
P Cole Hamels (Phi - SP) 9/101
P John Lackey (LAA - SP) 7/77
BN John Patterson (Was - SP) 17/197
BN Salomon Torres (Pit - RP) 19/221

This is my second year doing fantasy. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. I tried to build a strong staff because that is what came back to haunt me last season. I could probably use a guy who steals some bases, as well as a better OF than Burrell. I just grabbed Thomas with my last pick for the heck of it to get a decent player in exchange later on, perhaps a guy who can get me steals.

Leave your links and I'll help out next time I go online.

You're absolutely set for power, and the pitching's pretty good, although you're carrying a ton of injury risk there. Still, Zambrano sliding to the fourth and Lackey to the seventh makes the staff a winner. The huge problem here is that there is no real speedster there at all. You probably need to swing a trade for a big burner- perhaps having Thomas gives you the opportunity to send something like Hafner and a later-round guy for Crawford.

Sniff around all the big speed guys, and see if any of those owners have a mancrush or a glaring weakness that might mean you can get someone like that on the cheap. Failing that, check the status of sleeper speedsters like Duffy or Taveras- if other good players have slipped through the gaps, perhaps someone like that might also still be around. For instance, Brian Roberts was far from 100% owned going into 05, I'm not saying you'll get that level of breakout from the WW, but there's always an interesting guy or two out there.

Btw... The Big Hurt in the last round? WOW. I'm guessing this is a pub league?

OK, edit, stupid me, you've obviously punted SB as it's an H2H league. Still, I think looking around for a 'pinch runner' on the WW for when you're playing a similarly SB-challenged owner is a good idea.
