Michael Young close to signing 5 year extension

sounds like it would basically just add on a 5 year/75 million contract to the end of the 2 years he has left now, running through 2013.

this has been building up for a week or two and sounds like its almost a sure thing now.

Its a lot for young, especially considering hes already 30, but im glad they are rewarding young for what hes done for the rangers. hopefully they can finally have a good year and convince tex to stick around too.

Good for Mike.
I like Mike, but he does not get a lot of play around here. It is sad because he is solid, year in and year out. Texas could do much worse than a Mike Young for the next 5 years ..

Young's age worries me a bit because I think this is about as good as he's ever going to get. So the question really becomes is a SS who's a perennial .300 hitter with good production that has topped off worth $15 mil a year? Risky.

Young seems to be a very likable player but I always thought he was a bit overrated especially in fantasy baseball.

15 a year is too much for young. He's a good player, but he's not a superstar. He's a little old to improve.

if this is what the market says he's worth, good for him. I just think it would be overpaying

He deserves those $$$ and Texas should pay. This year is definitely the year to demand those big $$$ for FA's.
