PLEASE READ: Tweaking my draft strategy

Postby MattyIce19 » Sat Feb 24, 2007 1:19 am

In less than a month, I will be drafting a team in a money league, with a 40$ buy-in... hopefully ill have some extra spending cash and bragging rights by the end of the season...HOWEVER, as confident as I am in my drafting strategy, I need some advice.

I have compiled a "top 30 hitters" list, and my intentions are to draft from that list until no one remains, then move on to my rotation... in that amount of time, very few pitchers will be drafted and my selection of quality pitchers will still be excellent.

I recently have realized that Johan Santana is currently my favorite i player, without a doubt. He is absolutely dominant, yet I have not given him the respect hes deserved cause Ive never considered drafting a SP 1st round? What do you think, should I re-think my strategy and go for Santana?

I wouldn't have a problem taking Santana, but if you do you should plan that you are only likely to get 2 or 3 of the hitters on your list so I would suggest expanding your list, unless it is VERY deep, as 30 hitters will be hard pressed to get to the third round of a 12 team draft.

I think that it's not a bad idea to run through some mock drafts online, just to get a feel for where some different 'breaks' are and how tiers of players shape up. I don't think that you should be shy about getting Santana if you are drafting in a good spot, the guy is just amazing. ;-D

Yeah, I think that drafting Santana is a great idea... as long as you aren't drafting 1st. Pujols is the #1, as I am sure you know. I think that from then on Santana is a good pick.
