A little suprised......Chris Young

I was just looking at some random things and just realized how dominate Young was last year in terms of not being hit very much at all.

He had a 6.73 H/9 which I think was the lowest last year among players with 170+ IP. I'm not 100% sure about this as I didn't look at everyone.....

Zambrano had 6.81 H/9
Santana had 7.17 H/9

Young also had a .206 BAA last year.....



Has anyone else really taken a closer look at these numbers......kinda took me by suprise.

Agreed. He had a .237 BABIP and his FIP was 4.66

I'll stay away this year.

No, I agree. The year before he was at a hit per inning. Just saying he had a heck of a run last year.....moreso than I realized.

Now only if he can get up to 200+ IP......

His LOB% (Left on Base %) really rose last year.

LOB% and BABIP tend to be categories of luck, while there are exceptions to the rule i just stay away from those pitchers who had what seem to be unsustainable low BABIP or a lucky LOB%, i'd rather have a guy like vazquez much much later who pitched much better than his stats would suggest (high BABIP, high K/9)

If you keep it real simple he's a guy who was 3rd in whip & 6th in ERA. He plays in a pitchers park & is in a division where the teams aren't known for their offense.

For a stretch he was untouchable. What's not to like? He's not a big name so you should be able to get him at a decent price.

Honestly, he had a great season in 06 but he was just as lucky as he was good. I am still unsure about his abilities and I do think he will be overvalued going into 07.
