H2H scoring question

Postby socceryank » Wed Feb 21, 2007 12:30 am

Our main league is switching to a H2H format for the first time. I have played H2H several years now, but I have never seen a category "Innings Pitched" included in the scoring categories (Yahoo League). How does that category work...simply the team with the most IP wins the category? I'm not sure I care for that as a scoring category, as it is rewarding simple quantity over quality.

What pitching categories do you guys favor in H2H?

I've never seen it as a category in H2H, but it sounds like an awful idea because it encourages roster streaming.

We had this category in our league for a few years and cut it a couple years ago. I can see the point of it: Real MLB teams like inning eaters. But, in fantasy it's more of a reason to start a two start pitcher over a stud and I'm always against formats that reward that. I guess if you had a maximum innings pitched it might work.

i dont know if this is possible but innings/start might be what you would want to use. You are right that just Innings is a terrible cat for H2H, as it just would make people go for quantity.

With H2H categories, your standard 5x5 roto cats work just fine. If you wanna change it up some like to use OPS instead of AVG, or some add an extra category on both sides like OPS, OBP, holds, losses.

IP is a lame category. The only league I play where it's counted is a points league, but that makes sense.

Im in a points league where each inning pitched is 2pts...its not based just on innings though. If you get one out and the pitcher is removed its .66 pts per out. I think the stat makes sense when done by outs because you get negative points for hits, walks and runs.

well you have to use innings pitched in a point league, it is the only way to assign point values to the ratios of whip and era. In any sort of roto league it makes no sense to use.
