Is it just me or does anyone else think his power numbers were slightly out of character...

he is the only consistant bat in the M's lineup. He is going to be again hitting behind Ichiro and Beltre with Sexson batting behind him. I don't see why he can't put up .285/95/30/115

how about because this is the first year in the last 5 that he ever even got close to those kinds of number... here are his numbers since 2002 which was his first season with close to 500 at bats:

2002 KC 70 24 103 .294
2003 KC 95 18 90 .294
2004 SEA 67 16 62 .304
2005 SEA 92 20 89 .280
2006 SEA 103 33 123 .289

as you can see, he had by far his best production this past season, and he had the same lineup around him in 2005. I'm not saying he can't hit around .290, but my question weas geared more towards his power output of 33 homers and 100+ RBI... I'm just wondering if others think that was out of character based on his past, or are we seeing a new Raul Ibanez...? :-?

To me, Ibanez should do .275 85 25 95 as a minimum.

A max of .285 95 33 110.

He's f***ing 33 years old. He's not coming into his prime. He had a career year last year. His stats this year will be closer to 20 HRs and 75-80 RBI...which is still solid, but don't overrate him. Temper your expectations.

While I expect his HRs to drop, I would not be surprised to see him duplicate his R and RBIs. The jump in his production last year was the result of the fact that almost all his ABs came in the #3 and 4 spots in the lineup. Those R and RBIs were lower in prior years because he often had 100-300 ABs in sopts 5 or lower. He should stay in the 3 or 4 slot this year, so should maintain his runs and RBIs.
