MSNBC wrote:THE RANGERS HAVE discussed a three-way trade with the Boston Red Sox and Anaheim Angels, Newsday reported, citing no sources.
In the proposed deal, the Rangers would send A-Rod to the Red Sox, Boston would deal shortstop Nomar Garciaparra to Anaheim, and the Angels would trade shortstop David Eckstein and some pitchers to the Rangers.
Texas would rid itself of Rodriguez’s 10-year, $252 million deal, which has seven years and $189 million left. The Rangers would have to send money to the Red Sox also, Newsday reported, but team owner Tom Hicks is expected to cut payroll this off-season.
Rodriguez has a complete no-trade clause and would have to agree to any deal. The star is intrigued by the idea of playing for the Red Sox, the newspaper reported, citing a source close to him, and several outlets have reported that he would reject a deal to any National League team.
“I’m under contract with the Rangers, and I’m committed to the Rangers,” Rodriguez said Sunday from his home in South Florida, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. “Anything else, you have to ask the Rangers. I’m looking forward to next season, and I’m preparing to have a great year. I’ve already begun my workouts.”
Last week, the New York Times reported that Rodriguez would accept Boston, Anaheim, Baltimore and the Yankees as possible destinations. Yankees owner George Steinbrenner would enjoy acquiring A-Rod, although it would require the shortstop to accept a move to second or third base because Derek Jeter is entrenched at that position.
Garciaparra has one year left on his contract and is scheduled to receive $11.5 million.
holy s**t! this is huge. Red Sox could win the east if Arod is on a wining team. I feel bad for nomar
