Yeah, I wonder if you'd automatically get all the players with that last name, and then have to choose accordingly to avoid filling your roster by the 3rd round (after which you'd be out of the draft), or if you could just get "rights" to the last name, and at the end of the draft, you could cut whomever you wanted to get down to the roster size.
The first option would definitely add some downside to names like Ramirez, Rodriguez, Jones, Johnson... I hope you really like Dan, Nick, and Randy, because you're gonna have to fill every roster position with one of the 22 Johnsons listed...
I think maybe somewhere in the middle would work... When you pick a last name, you have to take either half of the available major league players (based on Yahoo eligibility), or fill every spot left on your roster (whichever is less). So some of those names like Johnson and Hernandez may be viable as last-round (and the last round could be as early as the 10th, depending on how you draft) options, when you only have like 4 roster spaces left. But they wouldn't be worth it early when there are 16-20 names available, and you might have to take 8-10 of them.
So where would you draft Pujols and Santana? I'm thinking both would be between #3 and #8... somewhere in there. Ramirez looks to be #1, and Sportsline has only 12 Ramirez's (Yahoo might have less), so that's 3 studs, 1 or 2 sleepers, and 1 or 2 bums... not bad.
(taps little picture of a microphone)... is this thing on?
