The Brewers may enter next year with a payroll of just $30 million. Team president Ulcer Payne Jr. said Saturday that the board of directors recommended a 2004 player payroll "in the $30 million range," a reduction from the $40.6 million payroll in 2003 which itself was a $10 million reducition from 2002. If the Brewers are serious about this, not only will Richie Sexson have to be traded, but the team might also have to pay someone $2 million-$3 million to take Geoff Jenkins. They're clearly the early favorites to feature the worst record in the NL. Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

I think that's right.
Still, even if the Brewers do drop payroll that low, I doubt they'll challenge this year's Tigers. Heck, they might still be better than next year's Tigers.

Ulice, Ulcer.....Don't look at me. I just cut and pasted the article.

I can almost guarantee they'll trade Sexson (hopefully TO the dodgers, hopefully NOT to ARZ) but I see them having a pretty good chance of trading Geoff Jenkins elsewhere TOO. Which I guess isn't bad since he is so injury prone....but after that...their offense gets tiger-esque REALLY quicklly. In fact.....kind of worse than the tigers I guess. D. Young , Munson, and Pena are at least OK, or have some future.
Sure Posednik is scrappy, and I've always liked Wes Helms.....but they get BAD after that.
Sheets is better than anyone Detroit had, but I think the rest of the staff is worse.......YUCK
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.
