Pujols' Value

Postby King Of Kings » Wed Feb 14, 2007 9:51 am

Hi guys, let's say one league allows Trading Picks during the draft...a guy has the first overall pick (that means he is selecting Pujols)...what's the price of that coveted first overall choice? A 1st and a 2nd? A 1st and a 3rd?

Think of it in terms of the players you can select with those picks.

For example, a first and second round pick would roughly be something like Miguel Cabrera and Miguel Tejada for Pujols.

To me, that's vastly uneven.

I'd shoot along the lines of a 1st and 7th or 8th round pick, or even lower.

Forgot to mention: whether or not it's the first year of a keeper league would definitely affect Pujols' value however. Perhaps then he's worth something along the lines of 1st & 4th or 5th. Still not worth 1st and 2nd, in my opinion.

It's an interesting question and one I've thought about before.

Personally I think I'd just hang on to Pujols and have hands down the top option in the game but if you're going to trade down, I'd say maybe a first and a fifth or lower? I doubt anyone would give you a first and a second or anything like that.

you won't get a 1st and 2nd rounder. maybe a 1st and 3rd rounder if the guy had the last pick of the 1st round (12th and 36th pick), but even that is unlikely.

if i was giving pujols, i'd give up on getting a 1st rounder at all, and try to get a 2nd and 3rd rounder. i think that's the most feasible, and would be a good deal for you. something like tejada and andruw jones lets say.

otherwise, just keep pujols.

this is all assuming it's a 12 team league or deeper. if it's anything less, just keep pujols.

Very good point. The shallower the league, the more valuable quality is over quantity.

I've been toying with the idea of trading Pujols in my keeper but he gives you such an advantage in terms of risk/reward that no one else can seemingly match at this point.

If you have him then keep him unless someone offers you a deal that you think is too good to be true.

If you want to trade for him, then I would offer up at least a 2nd and a 3rd rounder but I doubt you will get him unless you offer up your 1st as a package.
