Quoted for emphasis since I feel so strongly about it. That includes the hall as well. Leave his plaques in, but not him. If and I stress IF he bet on games that he managed or played in.
I'll agree to stress it again. Look, a lot of people point to "bad" people in the game, the wife beaters and other criminals, but this goes right to the integrity of the game.
If he bet on his team, he should never be allowed near MLB, let alone little league.
I agree with you guys. All of the other things (drugs, adultery, etc.) are bad but they don't have a sign in the clubhouse saying that you will be BANNED FOR LIFE if you do them like there is about gambling and they don't mess with the integrity of the game (Thanks Trans).
When this first went down, I was like Let him in. Since then, I have seen nothing but denial and self-promotion. I am so sick of seeing his mug on my TV. Put a plaque, a dirty uni, and a bat in the Hall and call it a day. IMHO, the only way that you believe that he didn't bet on baseball is if you also believe that OJ didn't do it and that he really is looking for the real killers.
I don't really want to get into this, b/c I know I will never win, but gambling is AN ADDICTION! Its the same as substance abuse. Sometimes, it grows out of a person's control, and they can't handle it. It is impossible to fight it, and these type of people NEED HELP! I have an alcoholic Uncle, and I've seen him want to put down a beer, but instead drink 5 or 6 more. Its sad, and its simply a psycological thing that can't be controlled. Ya, its horribly wrong, and yes, he should be punished, but banned for life? Give me a break!

While I understand what you are saying, I have to disagree. Baseball had a set of rules in effect and he broke the big one. You are right in that gambling is an addiction but if someone refuses to admit their wrongdoing, then they can't be helped. And if he can't be helped, then there is no room in the game for him. Isn't step 1 in all recoveries to admit that you have a problem? Over 14 years has gone by in this matter and he is too stubborn to admit any wrongdoing.
If he got drunk after every game, that is 1 thing. Betting on games reflects negatively on the integrity of the game.
Baseball has a long history of problems with gamblers. In this day and age, every game does. But the rules in baseball are crystal clear. I think Pete should be in the Hall, but I also think he should have NOTHING to do with the game otherwise, unless it's in Mexican winter ball or something. He knew what he was doing. Rules are rules.

All opinions are welcomed, and I won't tear you down about it or anything. I do have a question though.
If gambling is an addiction (which I don't believe), why not bet on a different sport? Bets can be placed on anything, so why bet on baseball?
I have said all the way through that he should be out of everything IF he bet on a team that he was managing or playing for.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Mad.......I gotta disagree with you big time on that one. The rush that you get from that is a lot like a rush from smokes or alcohol, etc.
I also welcome all opinions, even if I don't agree with them.
No problem, I've done all 3 and there are big differences in each of them. Just my opinion.

I agree with that. I am just saying that people are addicted to chemicals, gambling, sex, etc. because it gives you a unique rush, all of which are highly addictive.
