Mike Sweeney is a guy that seems to be going under the radar for next season. Hes what, 30 years old? Two years ago he hit .340-24-86. Last season he almost matched that rbi total despite missing 50 games. How is he doing health-wise and how do you feel about him in the 2004 season? Is he a second tier player under the heltons/giambis/delgatos/Thomes? where would you rank him?
With the injury risk he brings to the table, but the possible reward, I've got him ranked around 10th at 1B. Maybe 1 or 2 spots up or down from there. I'll be tinkering with my final projections all the way up until draft day.

The person I feel that's really been slipping under the radar has been Jose Valentin. That guy hit 28 hr at shortstop and went undrafted last year in my league!

Many of us in the KC area are worried about Sweeney. His doctors say the injuries are the type that will respond to rest - which he will get over the winter, but neck and back problems never seem to go completely away. The guy does have a sweet swing and the word is he may start the season as the Royals' DH with Ken Harvey taking over the 1B duties full time.
The one who ends up under everyone's radar is Angel Berroa. He had a shakey start in the field last season, but finished wonderfully. He has been mentioned seriously for ROY, but will have a hard time beating Baldelli. Pick Berroa up in your sleeper league and you won't have to worry about SS for the next couple of years.

Rob Neyer wrote an article about the Royals earlier this week. He said Harvey has the ugliest swing of any major leaguer. Problem is that he has the ugliest numbers to go along with it. It was a good read about the Royals, check it out.
