Greatest Left Handed Pitcher Ever?

Postby LCBOY » Tue Nov 04, 2003 5:30 pm

Ok folks, vote for the greatest LHP in baseball history. It would also be great if you would detail your reasons behind your selection. If you prefer you can select on the basis of "peak value" and "career value". I realize that the Big Unit is still active but his best years are probaby behind him and he is 40 years old.

Peak value is Koufax, in my opinion. Career value is very, very tough...

Career wise Lefty Grove. You could make a case hes best ever period.
148 career era+, 2nd best ever
9 era titles
.680 win %, 9th best

I used to think Koufax peak was the best, but that was before RJ and Pedro.

Isn't Pedro a righty? ;-7 Check out some of Grove's best seasons. At peak level he was pretty awesome, too. The nine ERA titles are extremely impressive given that no one else has won more than five...

Grove gets the career award only because Koufax had to retire early. If not for a career I go with Koufax.

Then again, if I could pick one LHP to build a team around, the choice would be ...

Spahn was defintely one of the greatest lefties in terms of career value. The guy pitched forever it seemed.
