Can someone help this noob?

I am new to collecting. After reading some Beckets I want to collect only Bowman baseball. Here is my question. It appears that to get all the rookies I have to buy Bowman regular, Bowman Chrome, and Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects. Why did they do this? I was thinking of collecting Topps and Topps Chrome but it appears that Bowman is the best for rookie cards.

It varies. Bowman and Bowman Chrome are definitely goodchoicesbut so is Topps Chrome and some of the short print and rookie jersey and rookie autograph cards....
