Our league wants to implement contracts this year but we are not sure the best approach for doing this. I was wondering how some of your contract leagues are run. Like how do you handle trades? How many years do you have to divide among your team? How long can you sign a player? etc. Any input would be appreciated...

I run a contract league where drafted players are yours for 2 seasons (1st year + 2nd option year). After the 1st year you have the option to sign your player to an extension which increases player salary by $3 per contract year.
players signed in auction for $1 signed in 2006 to a 2 year extension would have a salary of $7 for 2nd and 3rd years. If you don't sign him to an extension after year 1 he will be released after his 2nd option year..this forces owners to make some tough decisions.
