As a pastor, I'd quite like to hear your opinion on what you consider the role of the Old Testament within Christianity to be.
They tell the story of two different covenants. The OT tells the story of the fall of man and the covenant made with Abraham to make his descendants a nation through the time in which God restores all man through Jesus Christ in the New Testament bringing a new completion to the old covenant to Israel and a new covenant to Jews and Gentiles alike.
The OT demonstrates how holy God truly is and how it is truly impossible to live a blameless life. Sacrifices and procedures were both mandatory for the covering of sin. It tells the story of God's chosen nation and their path to ultimately ushering in the Son of God to be the perfect Lamb to be sacrificed for the sins of all man. Sorry if that sounded churchy.

I'm pretty sure if you ask a Churchman for his view on a religious matter, you have to expect it to sound churchy.
I don't want it to be 'Christianeese.' I guess to summarize what I said, the OT is the preparation the world for Jesus to come, the NT is the coming of Jesus. I've heard it put, "The OT is Jesus concealed, the NT is Jesus revealed."

Wow, someone got burned by a Christian/church some time in their past. Want to talk about it?
