Neifi Perez...I know he is never going to be as good as the Neifi who prospered in Colorado, but his defense could very well earn him the starting SS role for the Giants next season and he is at least someone to keep on your radar screen for an emergency back up.

Hopefully that is some helpful information for those of you who do not follow the Giants closely. Does anyone else care to share some home fan views along the same lines?[/b]

I would hope, if the Giants were "my team," that Neifi Perez never saw the field. We lived with him here in KC for a couple of years and he was terrible. When Tony Pena became the manager in '02, he told Nefi to go into a game that the Royals were losing miserably, and Neifi refused. It created quite a stir in the media around here. He was dropped pretty quickly at the end of the season. He showed an amazing lack of discipline at the plate and had no special skills in the field.

I hope the Giants can find a better back-up than Neifi.

For the Royals, Ken Harvey will probaly take over the 1B postition full time, moving Mike Sweeney to DH.

Harvey has an ugly, Jeremy Burnitz-style swing, but he seems to put the bat on the ball at just the right time. Too bad they don't keep track of Game-winning RBI any more, or Harvey would have had several last season.

Look for Aaron Guile to be the right fielder from the start of the season next year. Guile became a very effective hitter last season and was also a strong "clutch" hitter.

On the other side of the state, the Cardinals have turned loose of Fernando Vina, meaning 2B will be covered by Miguel Cairo or Bo Hart. Hart played the position most of the '03 season while Vina was injured. He has some promise, but likes to swing for the fence. He is a work in progress. Plays the position very well. Cairo is the faster of the two, but is very valuable as a utility player.

Have you been living in a shoe?

Neifi has an amazing arm and demonstrated wonderful defensive instincts, as the Giants' back up SS/2b.

I agree that Neifi is by no means a hitter, but his defense alone made him one of the top bench players in the league for the 2003 season.
