This has got to help Wagners value, right? I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think that Veterens (do the Phillies still play there? All these new stadiums are hard to keep up with) Stadium is a pitchers park. Certainly much better than Enron.
Plus, Burrell is going to remember how to hit one day, right?
Wagner's value should stay about the same. It's Dotel's value that gets a big boost.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
Walden warriors wrote:Dotel sucked as a closer when Wagner was gone in 2000. His TRADE value certainly skyrockets, but is he going to be all that as a closer?
That was his second season in the majors. Plus he was a starter before that. Dotel has shown since then that he can be very effective out of the pen. I think he will do just fine.
Brandon Duckworth, Taylor Buchholz, and Ezequiel Astacio
Brandon Duckworth is still intriguing, but Buchholz is the bigger prize. As a 21-year-old, he had a 3.55 ERA for Double-A Reading last season while pitching with bone chips in his elbow. He'll be 100 percent next year and projects as a No. 3 starter. Ramirez, 20, also has plenty of potential, but he didn't fare very well in his first minor league season and shouldn't be considered a top prospect.
Philly Big Red wrote:This is a great deal for the Phillies as they can now concentrate on a #1 starter and maybe Tejada.
Think realistically...Philly isn't rolling in money. They're already paying a potload of money for Thome, Millwood (who will probably be gone, I know) and now Wagner....Not very likely....
no way, the job belongs to dotel. they traded him to have dotel when hes considerably young. its gonna be dotels job. lidge didnt even have that great a year after the break
This is just cool that the first trade shot was fired. Thought I'd have to wait until next Monday.....I put dotel in the top 8 closers in the NL with some pretty high upside. Pretty confident he'll get the job, and hold the job for most of the year....at least as confident as you can w/ closers.
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.
