Non-serpentine draft...fair?

I'm in the 3rd year of a 7-keeper points league. We've usually had a serpentine draft based on standings the previous year. Our commish decided that this year would be non-serpentine.
Our league has ballooned to 14 teams. I finished 2nd, so this year I would be drafting 13th, but my 2nd round pick comes at #27/28.
What are your thoughts on this type of draft? Personally, I think it's unfair because not only do I not get a high draft pick, no team can benefit from the book-end picks. Is it unfair to either high/low draft teams, or both?

In my league that will begin it's 20th year this season, for 15 years we drafted according to finish,. Kicker was 1st place got 1st pick... that was to try and make sure everyone stayed in to the end. We had 10 teams. The last 5 were in a weighted lottery. But we never did a serpentine draft until 5 years ago when we started using Yahoo.

I think a serpantine is much better, however I think for the serpantine, instead of last place automatically getting 1st pick, I think last place should get their choice of what pick they want.

It's unfair in my opinion. Serpentine is fairer because the last picker is compensated in the next round. I know that the book-end picks seem like an advantage, but it is so long between picks you need something like that.

In re-draft leagues serpentine draft is the only fair draft


In keeper leagues a regular draft based on finish seems fair. It works for the big boys.

Bottom line - Auction is the best way to go.
