How does Nen perform in '04?

Nen is getting pretty old. He's 36. Off a full season, does Nen come back and step into his old skin as an elite closer or is he another mediocre closer who could possibly lose his job?

Good question. That's what many are wondering; unfortunately, I have nothing to tell you save for my hunch. I'm hoping he'll close well, but he's a considerable risk at this point. What kind of injury did he have?

Major shoulder surgery for someone who will be 34 on opening day. Definitely a gamble but maybe a nice late-round steal.

you could ask that question about alot of guys such as nen and hoffman too and a couple others. im sure that nen will come back strong because he wills himself to own eveyrone and hes a gamer. i highly doubt hell lose the closer job.

Also lacking formal reports, I am not sure how the experts are saying Nen will come back. But, I can give you the opinion of a die hard Giants fan, who has watched him for years.

Nen was flat out scary to watch in 2001 and 2002. Even though he could make any hitter wiff, his control was constantly in question. In fact, in 2001 most Giants fans would have rather seen Felix Rodriguez closing.

His injuries have been pretty ugly. And the biggest problem I have seen with them is that he rushed himself back last season. Stan Conti (the Giants trainer) is one of the best in the business, but it is tough to deal with anyone who can not properly take care of themself. However, after a full offseason of rehab, I think Nen should be 100% in 2004.

There is no doubt that Nen will be the Giants closer in 2004. His 9 million dollar contract screams, "he is our guy!" And, I would say that a trade is highly unlikely.

All and all I think he will be a top 5 NL closer. He will be healthy all season and the Giants will give him pleanty of save opportunities. He could actually sleep a little, even in Bay Area centered leagues!

Haha, I will defend all the Giants who diserve respect. I just was surprised that joshheines' entire premise was built around Nen being 36 and that no one even noticed he was wrong.

i like nen. him and foulke are old, yet hard workers. I plan on drafting him again next year. He should do well.

i don't know about Nen. Having shoulder surgey is not something to take for granted. As for right now, he is on my do-not-draft list.

Nen should show flashes of brilliance, but he won't be 100%.
