One of the dudes i'm targeting in my drafts this year is Chris Duffy. After he came back to Pittsburgh from some initial troubles, he swiped 23 bags in 53 games (projected over a whole season is 70 steals, but projections are mostly innaccurate). No doubt he can be a reserve outfielder in mixed leagues.
So, Cafe, my question is simple: should he be drafted late and counted on for like 40+ steals, or am i a little too high in my expectations? His initial struggling last year scares me off a little bit, but is he over it?
i dont think you should "count on him" to get you 40 sb's. he may not even get enough abs to think about that. i think if you expect/project around 30 sbs, that would be the safer option.
Chris Duffy is a pretty decent sleeper IMO. His AVG should go up considerably from what he posted in 06 and the SB should come as long as he is getting the ABs.
too bad he has no distant future in Pit with McCutchen on the horizon. Duffy will be trade bait soon enough. I liken Duffy to guys like Chuck Carr, Lance Johnson, Joey Gathright, Alex Sanchez, Dave Roberts, Ryan Freel, & Tom Goodwin.

Right or wrong, I've heard rumors of moving McCutcheon to a corner OF spot if Duffy can hack it for a full year in center.
I like him a lot and he is definitely a guy I will be targeting in the late rounds. I don't think his avg. will be any higher than .275 but with 500 plus AB's he could swipe 50 plus bags.

In real life or fantasy life?
I think Duffy is a decent pick in later rounds, especially if you need some extra SB in your lineup. He can steal a bunch of bases and put up reliable runs but not much else.

Probably both but he doesn't have the position value that Freel has.
