Obviously I'm not Wrveres, but I've been telling everyone to watch out for the Padres next year, since the Giles trade.
I had Peavy/Lawrence/Eaton all at one point or another last year. I'm looking forward to watching the Padres do well next year.

It's a contract year for Varitek. He's a free agent in 2005, so a trade is not out of the question.

Everybody is available, or haven't you been reading here in the Cafe. Even Varitek, god forbid that San Diego and Bos have front office ties. Ask Larry Lucchino.

I will be one who says he struggles some. At AA and AAA, he didn't walk much. Has trouble with breaking balls. A good talent, but maybe a bit overrated. I know hes not a ss, but a ex Padre is my early pick for nlroy, Jason Bay.

I agree that a veteran starter would be a good pickup. Rumor going around is that it could be Maddux. Something about him recently building a home in San Diego................
