Is he even going to get a chance to start this year? It looks like the Japanese Igwurma is gonna start at 3rd.

It's sure looking like he is going to be a big time bust. Now whether that's his fault or Tampa's fault is up for debate.

he is going to get playing time at DH until the devil rays are able to move balldeli or anyone else.
he will also split time with zorbist at short. and imawura can play 2nd and upton 3rd.

When a guy sucks at Defense as bad as Upton does its hard to put them in the infield anywhere. And the outfield is already crammed to the point of claustraphobia. I thinks it time they take a long hard look at their team as a whole and decide which direction they're going to go in. There just isn't enough room for everyone.

thats why they are considering trades.
you cant just say someone sucks at fielding based on half a year.
yea he made some mistakes but hes young and will come around.
but wherever upton plays he is going to be a feared hitter and a decent fielder.

Should stick him in the OF like his brother.

I remember reading about some article comparing him to Jeter's early years and how Jeter got over his fielding mishaps.

If Baldelli truly is on the table, then I think it's inevitable he's moved to the OF.

Errors by age:
JETER
18 - 21 in 57 games
19 - 56 in 126
20 - 25 in 138
21 - 29 in 123
22 - 22 in 157
23 - 18 in 159
24 - 10 in 149
25 - 14 in 158
26 - 24 in 148
27-32 - not more than 15 in any season

UPTON
19 - 56 in 122 games
20 - 9 in 30
21 - 53 in 133
22- 13 in 49

So do you think that no matter what, he's gonna get ABs? Regardless of where he plays.

I don't see any decline in Upton's errors, unless he plays fewer games.

If those numbers are projected out closer to a full season....

UPTON
19 - 56 in 122 games
20 - 36 in 120
21 - 53 in 133
22- 40 in 150

He'll probably improve, but I don't see him being a very good SS.
I agree with sticking him in the outfield.
He'll get his at bats(and steals) no matter where he plays.

Agreed. He's NOT getting any better. Was it this off-season he's been working out with Ozzie Smith?
If it was LAST off-season, it didn't help much!

So to summarize as of now he has no firm position. However Figgins had the same thing a few years back and he ran with it. He's someone to be aware of in ST.

The guy brings so much to the table Fantasy wise that you can't ignore him.

It's funny, because Upton will still make some amazing plays in the field, great throws, great diving plays...but yet, he'll botch the easy ones. It's a mental thing with him.
