Am I crazy for thinking HAFNER belongs mid first round?

Shapiro said yesterday at the fantasy baseball summit that Hafner is in the best shape he has ever been and the most prepared he has ever been.

Also, Hafner was 1 start at 1B away from gaining eligibility, and was actually pencilled in to play first in an interleague game however got sat down at the last minute because of an injury...so halfway through the year you could gain that flexibility

Why? Because Hafner was better than Ortiz despite missing significant time in 06.

i'd say near the end of the first, not mid first, but not a completely crazy thing to think

If the league has OBP, Hafner gets a giant boost. Also, it is also dependent on the flexibility you will have at the UTIL spot.

I don't think you can take Pronk before Ortiz. Pronk probably has a slight edge in BA, but Ortiz takes the RBI's and R's.

Hafner is like many first and second round guys: His rank is variable depending on the league.

I'm in an OBP league, and hafner's value is insane.

but in other leagues, It makes sense as to why he would fall to the early second. And that makes him a sweet deal there, IMO. Grabbing Wright and then Hafner if you have a later first round pick in a snake draft is reasonable drafting. And I wouldn't say either slipped at the same time. Also, Hafner could go as early as 5th, and it's smart drafting.

Leagues with more than one UTIL spot are also leagues that Hafner should go first in.

Although, I disagree that hafner should go before Ortiz. That's just plain silly. Ortiz has been 40+ Hr and 130+ RBI for three straight years. Hafner, hasn't hit those numbers due to two straighted shortened seasons.

So, my take is this: pay attention to your league format, and move guys around accordingly.

(Example: Garret Atkins is probably a 4th or 5th rounder in BA leagues, but in an OBP league, late 2nd and third round are more reasonable. different formats move guys up and down.)
