about 4-5 days before Opening Day. Gives everyone a chance to have a peak to see who's on waivers and make any swaps. Plus, after Spring training is all but complete, the suckers in my league can draft guys like Casey Kotchman way before he should be. }:-)

A week before is usually best. You can draft and then have a week to make trades, raid the FA list, talk trash, etc.

ALSO: After the draft, the team commissioner has to actually enter all the rosters into the fantasy website and that can be VERY time-consuming. If you don't give him enough lead-time, you can enter the season without complete rosters.

A week or two before the season is fine by me.

I prefer as early as possible...makes for more free agent/trading activity during the winter months. ;-D

Unfortunately, our live auction usually take place the Saturday after the season begins due to owners being away on vacation during spring break. The downside is you know the lineups and who is the early closers. The upside is players sometimes are purchased, or purchased at inflated prices, because they had a hot first week. Example - Shelton was kept for $10.00 becuase he started out with multiple home runs.

Ideally, I prefer the Saturday before the start of the season.

I'll elaborate a little more about what I feel the pros and cons are of starting early or later...

Starting early:
PROS: You have to be more prepared and it seperates the hardcore fan from the average fan because not only are there questions regarding where players will play and for what team but not many, if any, sites have there rankings up so you have to do them yourself with not much "expert" help (Which is what I like, anyone can grab rotoworlds rankings and go in a draft and come out fine)

CONS: Injuries

- If you are in an "only" league then you might get into trouble drafting a guy that ends up getting traded or picked up (FA) before the season starts.

Starting just before the season starts:
PROS: Don't have to worry about injuries

CONS: You don't have to know much about what has been going on during the offseason because alot of the questionable stuff has been answered by this time.

- There are a million different rankings and projections out by this time and you don't even have to be very prepared for the draft, just grab a set of rankings and get after it.

- Its very hard to wait until the last day to draft..... I gotta have it now!! :-°
