Today we continue our series of 2007 rankings. I noticed that third base has developed a fairly deep talent pool. Gone are the days when Chipper and Rolen had it all to themselves. Enter the 2007 class where we can go five deep without fear. This group of fantasy players has some young proven talent along with some rising stars, so let's take a look and see what we came up with.
Alex Rodriguez, NYY
Miguel Cabrera - FLA
Garrett Atkins - COL
Aramis Ramirez - CHC
David Wright - NYM
Scott Rolen - STL
Ryan Zimmerman - WAS
Chone Figgins - LAA
Chipper Jones - ATL
Troy Glaus - TOR
Joe Crede - CHW
Chad Tracy - ARI
Adrian Beltre - SEA
Eric Chavez - OAK
Mark Teahen - KC
Edwin Encarnacion - CIN
Freddy Sanchez - PIT
Aubrey Huff - BAL
Morgan Ensberg - HOU
Alex Gordon - KC
Hank Blalock - TEX
Ty Wigginton - TB
Mike Lowell - BOS
Kevin Kouzmanoff - SD
It is very possible that four of these players will be drafted in the first two rounds of your draft. Another two or three will be drafted soon after. If you want a big name player at third base you are going to need to invest early. I suggest that you grab Garrett Atkins or Aramis Ramirez in the late second or early third. I would also keep a watch out for Mark Teahen, he produced well late in the 2006 season and could be real bargain for a late shopper!
Am I too low on Wright?
Is it any good?
Give me your feedback!

Rolen and Atkins too high. Not bad otherwise.

I'm not all that far into my projections yet so I can't give you a strong comment but the one thing that jumps out at me is I think Zimmerman is probably too high. That lineup is going to be pretty terrible this year and he's not going to become a big HR hitter. I'd expect his RBI's to be down and he'll probably put up Lyle Overbay style numbers which are fine but not 7th best 3B fine.
I also would not feel comfortable taking Atkins over ARam and Wright, I can believe he'd put up better numbers than them but he has a little less of a track record with no stronger upside than them imo.

I know what you are saying...I do think he ends with better numbers this season.
So I ranked him up high,
What we need to remember is draft value vs actual projection. I think Atkins can be had far cheaper than Wright...but I think Atkins will have better numbers. That makes him a great draft pick where he is being taken.

I'm not high on Chone Figgins. I don't like where he is supposed to bat this year. I agree with you on David Wright, something about him worries me. I'd rather have Atkins than Wright, but Wright will be chosen first.
I'm also going to throw out that Miggy could go end up ahead of AROD. Kinda a hunch here.

I've watched Chavez in person for years....the guys swing is flawed. He'll get hot for a week or two out of the seaon, other than that......
I'd drop him to about Ensberg.

Overall, not too bad. Most of my indifferences lie towards the mid to latter part of the rankings.

That's just about how I would have it.
