Franco back?

Postby Mad'sWife » Thu Oct 30, 2003 7:08 am

Franco back? Don't be surprised if Julio Franco is celebrating his 46th birthday next August while still playing for the Braves. The ageless wonder hit .294 in 197 at-bats during the 2003 season and proved to be more than capable of playing sound defense at first base.

Franco, whose physical condition is impressive for a man of any age, also brings a sense of leadership that has been lacking among the Braves' position players over the past few years.

According to Franco's agent, Chuck Berry, Franco has a definite desire to one day be a manager and has already had some discussions with Braves general manager John Schuerholz about possibly getting into the coaching profession within the next few years.
We either make ourselves happy or miserable.

The amount of work is the same.

The Braves have been looking for a 1B for over 5 years now... You would have thought that some one in the org. would have stepped up by now. Well I guess Helms tried, but he was just average, But the Braves never showed him any confidence either. Oh well let them Platoon 40 year old men. Hey, Galaraga is out there, shame he wants to go back to SF. The could use a platoon of Franco, Galaragga, Franco² ...

Trust me, Sheff's .330 average vs. Sexson's .270 would be missed. :-) It would lighten the blow though. :-D

Adam Laroche - 1B - Atlanta Braves Nov 2

Adam LaRoche went 3-for-3 with a homer as the Puerto Rican Winter League opened play yesterday.
LaRoche, who turns 24 this week, could be Atlanta's primary first baseman in 2004. The left-handed hitter batted .290 with 20 HR and 72 RBI between Double-A Greenville and Triple-A Richmond last season. He'd probably be well below average offensively if he starts against righties next season, but he is a great defensive first baseman. He could be the new Rico Brogna.

hmm.. take that you know it all .............lmao :-B

That part tells me one more year in the minors would be good for LaRoche.
