I wonder if this will give him a kick in the ass. Boston papers reported that he told Theo to put him on waivers and guaranteed the Yankees would pick him up.

Embarrasing that no one did, wouldn't you say?
I'm back. Sorta.

well, i am sure if he was getting like 10 million a year, then teams would have tried to pick him up.

8-o

I'm amazed that you thought that. ;-)

That's a LOT of dough.

It's a lot of money, but just look at the numbers. I mean they are almost guaranteed every year. I'm not a big fan of Manny's, but I do respect what he can and does at the plate.

If Manny was making $10 mil a year, the Red Sox wouldn't have put him on waivers.

Great move by Theo. Calling Manny's bluff like that ...

Agreed. I mean Palmiero won a Gold Glove a few years ago playing like 30 games at first base. :-/

Bill James has written about this. It was a statistical fluke, a remnant of the voting system. I don't remember the details, but it had something to do with vote-splitting, blah blah blah.

Gold gloves are voted by the mgrs who put no time or thought in it.
