We are an 18 team H2H league with 30 roster spots (10 hitters, 10 pitchers, and 10 bench.) We field 3 SP, 3 RP, and 4 P and can change lineup daily. Our categories are W, S, HD, ERA, WHIP, K, K/9. What is the best max and min innings pitch limit and do we need one?
I don't see why you need a max, but definately use a min. Without a min, people will take advantage of things...for example, ERA and WHIP would be 0 if you didn't use any pitchers.
A minimum configuration to me would look like this: If a team had 3 starters and 7 relievers...they should get at least:
4 IP / SP * 3
3 IP / RP * 7
That leaves 12 IP + 21 IP.
I'd say a nice round number would be 30 IP, minimum. My league uses :
I'd probably go a bit higher than the suggested 30ip. We also have a 2sp, 2rp, 3p league but went to 30ip in that setup. I was able to seriously take advantage for era/whip using one absolute ace SP (Carpenter) and 5 relief aces (Shields, Linebrink, Rincon, Duchscherer and Soriano). With that configuration I would hit 20ip on a regular basis (our minimum was 16 that year).
