Better 6th Pitching Category.....

Complete Games (CG) or Quality Starts (QS)? ... or something else???

We've been doing CG the past few years in our league, but it sometimes seems much more "lucky" than the other categories.

first off id recommend holds, but if you want to stick with SP cats, then i prolly wouldnt do CG, some of it is luck and frankly its just not fun because they are so rare, last years leader i believe had 6, and only a handful of pitchers had more then 3, if you want to do a stamina stat, id just do IP. for then you are at least rewarding the workhorses, and vetern pitchers who can pitch more than 5 inn a game. however, id rather do QS for sure over CG, IMO....good luck

then Quality starts (not all sites offer this)

then CGs.

Holds - I like getting more relievers into the mix. I agree with others - if you want to stick to another SP category, go with QS.

We just dumped IP for holds as our 6th category. To offset it, we added blown saves to the saves category (so, net saves). When you blow a hold, it's counted as a blown save.

should be an interesting year for relievers in our league.

It’s a shame yahoo doesn’t offer QS – I can’t recall the exact definition of a quality start, but I remember thinking it was a good indicator of an SP (anyone want to refresh my memory?) IMHO holds are silly – there are so many setup men out there.

I can see it now – at the ASB, the manager trailing in the most pitching cats decides to ransom his best pitchers for a good bat, and then finishes out the season with a jillion relievers, essentially locking up the holds category. It’s a whole new arms race!

A Quality Start is defined as a starter going at least 6 innings, allowing 3 runs or less. I don't think 3 runs in 6 innings is all that great a start (4.50 ERA), but that's what it is.

It's not so easy to lock up holds. It's very similar to saves, and a team can go a while without being in a position for pitchers to get holds, and some managers aren't very predictable who they will use when the team has the lead.

I like Holds as a 6th category, especially in deep leagues .... I think QS would be better than CG though .. if I had to choose one .
