My buddy wants to start a Keeper League and wants my opinion on a few things before he starts. I told him I'd ask the community at the Cafe for their opinions as I don't really have any concrete answers for him.
He is having a 13 team roto league with 25 man rosters.
You keep 8 players. The players you keep, whatever round they were drafted, you lose that pick in that round the following year. If a guy was kept who wasn't drafted and was added as a FA, you don't lose any pick in the next year's draft.
What he wants to know is what happens when teams are trading:
Scenario:
Team A trades to Team B: Jose Reyes (1st round pk) and Rich Harden (6th rd pk)
Team B trades to Team A: Travis Hafner (2nd rd pk), CC Sabathia (8th rd), and JJ Putz (7th rd)
After the season, Team B keeps Reyes and Team A keeps Hafner and CC.
Now, does Team B lose their 1st rd pick the following year due to the fact that Reyes was a 1st round pick? And, does Team A lose their 2nd and 8th rd picks for the next year since Hafner was drafted in 2nd round and CC was drafted in the 8th?
He also believes that Team A, since they are only receiving 2 players in the deal, should be getting a supplemental draft pick in the round 8 of the following year's draft. He came up with the idea that you take the player out of the ones you're trading who was drafted the lowest, in this case, it was CC in the 8th round and award that team an "extra" pick in that round the following year?
Does that make sense to anyone. It's too confusing for me, that's why I'm presenting this question to you guys.
Thanks for any help you can give...
