beckett had close to no run support when it counted, hence is low win record. he pitched wonderfully, but never got the runs he needed. webb is a close third though

Beckett wouldn't even be considered better than Webb based on the regular season, but his playoff performance changed everybody's mind. Webb did all this as a rookie with ZERO run support, and Beckett has been around for a few years, and had more run support, but was still on about the same level as Webb.

Webb had a 2.84 era. Considering thats almost a run over his minor league stats, 1 season doesnt a career make. I like Webb, but 3.5 seems more reasonable. Beckett was rated by scouts as Priors equal, more or less. Scouts never had Webb rated as a future stud. The scouting reports last off season said Josh has cy young stuff.

Not to get side tracked, but scouts may have rated Beckett as high as Prior, but that just shows the imperfections of scouting. They couldn't have possible known that Prior's control would be this phenominal, but his college numbers show that.

I like dontrelle personally, and i don't know if i am to agree with you or not. he had a couple of rough starts to end the season, who knows how he'll do next year?

Injury scares me the most about Dontrelle for next year.
Yes doctor, I am sick.
Sick of those who are spineless.
Sick of those who feel self-entitled.
Sick of those who are hypocrites.
Yes doctor, an army is forming.
Yes doctor, there will be a war.

my theory on dontrelle is that a lot of his effectiveness came from the deceptiveness of his delivery - he got hit much harder the second time around, once hitters had the chance to adjust and watch him on film, so unless he's got some tricks up his sleeve I think he'll be hard-pressed to match the initial run of quality starts he had last season.

I look at it like this: I consider Beckett a future #1 no brainer (if he isn't already). IMHO, the ceiling for Webb is as a solid #2. That's not a knock on him. I just think that there is no question that Beckett's ceiling is higher. And I thought this before the postseason.
