David Wells may need another surgery on his ailing back. Although he hasn't been ruled out for this weekend, Wells back was still limiting him yesterday. "The issue he's dealing with, it's the same one that he had repaired prior to us signing him," Yankees GM Brian Cashman said, referring to the problem that cost Wells half of the 2001 season. It's possible that Wells will call it quits this winter rather than go through another extended rehab. The Yankees aren't planning to pick up his $6 million option for 2004.
