A.J. Pierzynski, bothered by a sore left ankle for most of the season, has decided against surgery after seeing a specialist. Because the Twins need to save money and think Joe Mauer is nearly ready, the arbitration-eligible Pierzynski is a candidate to be traded this winter. The Padres are believed to be interested. I have heard his name bantered about, right along with all the other, Ausmus, Santiago, Javy, Kendall...
IMO .... they should just bring back Santiago for a two year deal. He should be a lot expensive than the other on there list but will probably offer similar stats. Santiago would love to finish out his career wher it started.
Does anybody know what is holding his knees together anyways...??
All the savings ..... Can be spent in three spots. SP, RP and CF ....
Wrveres, I'm not sure that Santiago has anything left. He's what, 800 years old ? It might be worth a gamble if he's cheap enough, but he'd have to be very cheap.

You know what ... I just went to check his overall stats... and you may be right... But I still think we could get him cheap and focus the cash on starters..or.....or ... That special center fielder ...hmmm I love rumors..
Watching Santiago play for the Giants the past few years, I don't think any decent team would want him as a starter. Sure he can hit a little, but his defense is painful.
Due to his car accident, he is HORRIBLE at blocking balls. And you get sick of watching him struggle to throw out runners from his knees.
On top of his steady decline in play, he is getting too old to be an every day catcher. He should only be counted on to catch 5 games a week.
The only thing you can still count on Benito for, is calling a good game. I think he is best fit for a team like Pittsburg. It would be nice to have him bringing up some young arms.
He is definately not the guy for the Pads. They will do better.

He's just declining too rapidly for my taste. I might take the Pierzynski deal.

I'm pretty sure it's a combination of duct tape, pine tar and sunflower seed shells.
Why do you think he'll be a cheaper option than the other catching options? Rumor has it that he's looking for a big contract. I don't know that he'll get one, but by the time he figures that out the Padres will probably want to have their catching situation figured out so they can concentrate on other signings.
