Options on Clayton, Rusch declined
Players eligible to become free agents after World Series
MILWAUKEE, WI -- The Milwaukee Brewers will not pick up the option years on the contracts of infielder Royce Clayton and pitcher Glendon Rusch, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Doug Melvin.
Both players will be eligible to become free agents at the conclusion of the 2003 World Series.
Clayton, 33, batted .228 with 11 home runs and 39 runs batted in for Milwaukee in 146 games. In his only season in a Brewers uniform, he committed just 14 errors as the club's primary shortstop.
Rusch, 28, struggled through a tough year as he posted a 1-12 record with a 6.42 ERA in 32 games, 19 starts. The left-hander spent two seasons with the Brewers, compiling an 11-28 record with a 5.34 ERA in 66 games, 53 starts.
We either make ourselves happy or miserable.
The amount of work is the same.
